The most significant difference is how the tests are used. The GRE is required for admission to most graduate schools, while the SAT is used when applying to undergraduate schools. The GRE tests the progression, over the course of your undergraduate studies, of the college-level skills that the SAT initially evaluated.
Generally, a 75 percentile is a pretty good GRE score, and a 90 percentile is an excellent one. Thus, we can say that a score of 318 and above is good, whereas a score of 329 is an excellent one. A score of 300+ is considered average, and a 292 score is considered below average.
The only major difference? GRE subject tests focus on college-level concepts and are therefore a lot harder than SAT subject tests. Also, the GRE offers predominantly STEM-related tests, while the SAT offers more language and humanities ones. At present, there are six GRE subject tests and 20 SAT subject tests.

How often can I retake the test? You can take the test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.

How is the GRE Scored? The GRE has three sections – a Verbal Section, a Quantitative Section and an Analytical Writing Section. The Quantitative and Verbal Sections are each out of 170 points making the highest possible score on the GRE a 340.
You can't cram for the GRE test. By and large, the exam is a test of patterns, not facts, so if you want to raise your GRE score, you will need sufficient time to practice. We suggest you devote between 4 and 12 weeks to GRE preparation.

No matter how well you score on a diagnostic practice test, you should still aim to study for at least a month for the GRE. Your diagnostic score may not be representative; do not assume you'll be able to recreate it with ease under real test conditions on test day, especially if it is a higher score.

Even at $1,400 and 40 hours of your time, a GRE prep class can be worth it. The payoff can far outweigh the cost, but choose your prep course carefully. While most courses teach exactly the same techniques (more on that in a minute) there may be some key areas they don't address.
