Any rescue or shelter participating in the Petfinders online adoption service can enter one or more puppies in the Puppy Bowl. Some shelters specialize in certain breeds, like Pit Bulls and Basset Hounds, while others rescue any small dogs, large dogs, sleek dogs, and fluffy dogs.
The Puppy Bowl isn't live and usually takes a few days to film. All of the pups are from shelters and are adopted beforehand and the show will promote adoption throughout.

Though the Kitten Bowl isn't airing in 2022, animal lovers can tune in for Animal Planet's annual Puppy Bowl (beginning Sunday at 2/1c) ahead of Super Bowl LVI featuring the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals (NBC, 6/5c).
Great American Rescue Bowl, presented in association with North Shore Animal League North America, will feature kittens, puppies, cats and dogs available for adoption at shelters throughout the U.S. The Kitten Bowl is credited with facilitating more than 75,000 shelter pet adoptions since premiering in 2014.
