Life skills is a term used to describe a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable individuals and groups to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in daily life.
Defining Essential Life Skills
NICEF, UNESCO and WHO list the ten core life skill strategies and techniques as: problem solving, critical thinking, effective communication skills, decision-making, creative thinking, interpersonal relationship skills, self- awareness building skills, empathy, and coping with stress and emotions.
These skills are usually clubbed into three major categories: Thinking skills (critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, decision making) Personal skills (self-awareness, self-management) Interpersonal skills (communication skills, empathy, cooperation etc.)

Individual life skills include self-awareness, ability to cope with stress, with emotions and assertiveness. Awareness is the ability of knowing things. Thus self- awareness is the ability of an individual to know himself or herself, his or her feelings, emotions, strengths and weaknesses.
1. Decision-making and problem-solving. Everybody, even trust-fund babies, are faced with challenges and difficulties in their lives. Not all of us are talented at overcoming these challenges, however.
Sources of life skill include family, neighbors, friends, school, society and religion. We can use special skills to make good friends, show empathy, resist peer pressure, display effective communication, and solve problem.
Practical skills are self-help and life-saving skills and lessons that you can learn (often easily), teach to others, and practice every day to prepare and protect your and others' health. Most practical skills do not require special certification or formal training to perform, but you do need education.
