A federal law, enacted in 1968, bars federally licensed dealers from selling handguns to persons under age 21. But those age 18 and over are still permitted under federal law to purchase handguns from a private party. They also are allowed to buy long guns from a dealer.
They're not illegal. They can't be purchased from a firearms dealer, due to not being “on-list" of the CA DOJ approved firearms. They may however be purchased via a private party transfer.
In order to bring into California any guns bought or obtained out of state, California residents must have the weapons directly shipped to a licensed gun dealer. Any handgun legally offered for sale in California has to pass firing, safety and drop tests as stipulated by the California Department of Justice. Not only is this great for duty carry purposes, but it solidified the Gen 3 as a favorite pistol for gun hobbyists. One last advantage is that the Gen 3 has an extended extractor, which easily indicates whether the chamber is loaded.
A full size handgun can be good for beginners because it has a larger area of grip and a wider sight radius from front to rear sight. By far, my favorite full size handgun is the Glock 19 9mm. It's the most widely used law enforcement pistol the world over and is designed meticulously using scientific technology.
By far the most popular police service pistol in the United States, the GLOCK 22 fires the potent 40 S&W cartridge and holds more rounds for its size and weight than most other full-sized handgun in its class.
The Glock's polymer construction makes it the lighter choice. However, that means that when you are using a higher caliber, the SIG handles recoil better than the Glock does. If you are looking for a well-concealed carry weapon, or a lighter one, the Glock will edge out the SIG in this category.
